Run the Alamo half marathon

2025/3/16 Edited to

... Read moreDeciding to run a half marathon is a huge step, and crossing that finish line for the first time is an absolutely wild feeling! For me, the Alamo Half Marathon was my "first one in the books," and it was an experience I won't soon forget. It wasn't just about the miles; it was about the journey, the training, and finally seeing all that hard work pay off. The training leading up to race day was a real test of discipline. Waking up early for long runs, sticking to a consistent schedule, and pushing through when motivation dipped – it all builds character. There were days when it felt impossible, but picturing that finish line kept me going. If you're thinking about becoming a 'half runner,' remember that consistency is key, and every small win in your training adds up to that big race day success. Race day itself at the Alamo was electric! The atmosphere was buzzing with anticipation. Seeing hundreds of fellow runners, all with their unique race bibs pinned on, sharing that collective energy was truly inspiring. The course itself, running through historic San Antonio, made each mile feel special. I focused on maintaining my pace, aiming for that steady 8:29 Min/Mile I'd trained for. There are moments during the race when your mind tells you to stop, but that's where the mental toughness kicks in. You remind yourself why you started, you tap into that deep well of motivation, and you just keep moving forward. And then, the finish line! The relief, the joy, the sheer accomplishment of it all is overwhelming. Grabbing that medal and taking a moment to catch your breath is pure bliss. Later, checking the official results was just as exciting. My Chip Time of 1:51:15.062 felt incredible for a first-timer. Seeing my ranking – Overall 334 out of 2785, Age Place 67 out of 213, and Gender 284 out of 1268 – really put things into perspective. It showed me how much I'd achieved amongst a huge field of dedicated runners. These numbers aren't just statistics; they're a testament to the effort, the grit, and the incredible challenge of running 13.1 miles. Reflecting on my Alamo Half Marathon, I'm already thinking about what's next. This race wasn't just about completing a distance; it was about proving to myself what I'm capable of. For anyone considering taking on a half marathon, whether it's your first or your tenth, embrace the journey. Find a race that excites you, commit to your training, and remember that every step is part of your unique story. Even personal touches like tattoos can tell a story of commitment and strength on the course. It's a challenge, yes, but the reward of becoming a 'half runner' and pushing your limits is absolutely worth it!

tips for your first half marathon 🫶🏻
1. Start out slower than you want - you can always build as you go (and it’s more exciting imo). The second half is where it gets mental. 2. Practice eating & drinking well before race day. Incorporate gels/chews/candy/etc into your long runs (60+ mins). Get used to drinking while moving to

I am so proud to say I ran my first Half Marathon! I put in a lot of training and hard work. I almost couldn’t run this because 3 weeks before my race I developed a stress injury. I seen doctors, had an mri, went to physical therapy, recovery therapy, and did everything I could to run this race.

Half Marathon Training Plan
Last week I ran my first half marathon in almost 2 years!! I had taken a break from longer distances and stuck to 5 and 10Ks for a while since that’s what I enjoy most! But training for this half helped me get motivated to do longer runs and actually ignited a new love for longer (for me) runs!
