Mini Hong Kong French Toast ๐Ÿคค

Hong Kong french toast is deep-fried, egg battered toast layered with peanut butter and topped with sweetened condensed milk.

Ingredients:

โ€ข 4 slice of white bread ๐Ÿž

โ€ข 3 eggs

โ€ข 2tbsp evaporated milk

โ€ข pinch of salt

โ€ข peanutbutter

โ€ข Topping: condensed milk, butter, honey, other toppings (optional & based on your preferred taste)

Steps:

1. Slice the crusts of the bread off, then cut your bread into 6 smaller squares.

2. Spread your peanutbutter on half the squares, then form a sandwich with the other half that do not have peanutbutter on.

3. In a bowl, beat your eggs, pinch of salt and evaporated milk together. Then coat all the sides of your bread in the egg mixture.

4. Heat about 2 inches of oil in a pot, then fry your bread until golden and crispy. To remove your bread from the oil use a strainer so the excess oil can drip off.

5. Serve with a slice of butter on top of your french toast, with honey and condensed milk or any other toppings you may want. Enjoy!

... Read moreHey everyone! I'm so excited to share more about my latest obsession: Mini Hong Kong French Toast! The original recipe is fantastic, but I've picked up a few extra tips and tricks along the way to make it even more heavenly, especially if you're like me and constantly searching for that perfect "toast recipe" or "Asian French toast" fix. First off, let's talk about the deep-frying. This is where the magic happens, turning simple bread into those irresistible, golden-brown squares. To ensure your French toast isn't greasy, heat your oil properly. I usually test it with a tiny piece of bread; if it sizzles immediately and floats, it's ready. Don't overcrowd the pot, and fry in batches. Once they're a beautiful golden-brown, use a spider strainer or slotted spoon to lift them out, letting the excess oil drip off thoroughly before placing them on a wire rack lined with paper towels. This step is crucial for that crispy, non-soggy texture we all crave! While peanut butter and condensed milk are the classic combo (and absolutely delicious!), don't be afraid to experiment with other fillings! For a different sweet treat, I sometimes swap the peanut butter for kaya jam (coconut jam) or even a thin spread of Nutella. If you're feeling adventurous, try a savory version with a slice of cheese inside; the melted cheese with the crispy exterior is surprisingly good! For those looking for "peanut butter and condensed milk toast" specifically, definitely stick to the original, but these variations are fun to try when you have extra bread. Now, for toppings! The recipe mentions condensed milk, butter, and honey, which are divine. But why stop there? I love adding a dusting of powdered sugar for an elegant touch, or a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top for a decadent dessert. Fresh berries or sliced bananas can also add a lovely freshness and cut through the richness. These mini French toasts are so versatile, making them perfect for any meal, whether it's a quick "breakfast" or a special dessert. Another pro tip: make sure your peanut butter layer isn't too thick, especially if you're making these mini versions. A thin, even layer prevents the filling from oozing out during frying. And for the egg batter, ensure all sides of your bread squares are fully coated for an even, golden crust. Using evaporated milk in the batter, as the recipe suggests, really helps achieve that rich, authentic Hong Kong style French toast flavor. If you find yourself with leftovers (which is rare in my house!), you can gently reheat them in a toaster oven or air fryer to bring back some of that crispiness. They might not be as perfect as fresh, but still tasty! These "quick recipes" are fantastic for a weekend brunch or when you just need a comforting, sweet snack. I hope these extra tips help you make the best Mini Hong Kong French Toast ever!
