Often, we mistake consistent kindness with acceptance of bad behavior, but they are very different. It helped me to remind myself that accepting disrespect can damage my self-esteem over time. I used to think that as long as I was loved, everything else would fall into place, but that’s not true. Love that comes with disrespect isn't truly love—it's something that can hurt more than help. Building this awareness took me a while, and it involves honest self-reflection about what I deserve and what behaviors are unacceptable. Surrounding yourself with people who respect your boundaries is key. It might feel lonely at first to say no to someone you care about, but in the long run, it's a path to healthier connections and personal growth. If you find yourself struggling with this, try to write down moments when you felt disrespected and how you reacted. Over time, this can help you identify patterns and empower you to stand up for yourself. Remember, loving yourself means not settling for less than you deserve, and that lesson is worth the struggle.
