Endometriosis or Cancer?

Hey all! I was wanting some input since I have been going to my gynecologist for nearly 2 years and have had 3 surgeries for my endometriosis in that time frame. I have tried countless pain medications, suppositories, 200 units of Botox in my pelvic floor, being put into medically induced menopause, surgeries to remove endo lesions and surgery to remove my hymen, testosterone injections pelvic floor physical therapy and the last goes on. Before my last surgery in December, my doctor pretty much told me that after this, there’s nothing else they can do and they want to send my out of state to an endometriosis specialist but at my last appointment about a month ago, we talked about that AND getting a colonoscopy. My doctor did not mention cancer but after discussing this with my physical therapist, she said that that’s the only thing that they could really be looking for because IF endometriosis is inside my intestines/ colon, the gastroenterologist that is doing the surgery is not trained on what it looks like or how to remove it. I’m 24 years old and am scared to have a colonoscopy but to my fellow endo girlies who may be in the same boat, should I do it?

Also, I don’t think I’ll be able to have surgery with a specialist out of state because of my insurance. I work for a doctor so it’s a special type that works well with the doctors around me but pretty much no where else. So my surgery would probably cost me upwards of 10k AT LEAST!! Which, even being in as much pain as I am in everyday, I don’t think I can swing on my lil credit card.

... Read moreEndometriosis is a painful condition affecting many women, often leading to frustrating and invasive treatments. This article touches on critical discussions regarding potential cancer risks associated with endometriosis, particularly when lesions are deep in the pelvic region or intestines. Women facing similar challenges often question the need for additional procedures, such as a colonoscopy, to rule out serious conditions like colon cancer. Colonoscopy is a vital procedure that can provide clarity in diagnosing abnormalities. While it can be daunting, it is essential for patients with chronic pain or symptoms that raise red flags. Moreover, insurance complications often weigh on decisions for surgical options for endometriosis treatment. It's crucial for individuals experiencing these health concerns to stay informed about their rights and options. Support networks are invaluable; connecting with others who understand can provide comfort and insights. Sharing stories about navigating healthcare systems, managing finances for treatments, and coping with pain can empower individuals to seek the care they need. The community surrounding endometriosis awareness continues to grow, advocating for better treatment options and research funding. Remember, discussing symptoms with your healthcare provider is critical, and seeking a specialist can be beneficial, despite the challenges posed by insurance. Stay hopeful and proactive in managing your health.

I had the endoscopy and colonoscopy done at the same time and I was so freaked out. It was easy and super fast and I worried myself for no reason. Praying for you!
