Clarifying before deep conditioning helps remove buildup so treatments can actually work. Save this if deep conditioning never seems to help your low porosity hair.

After clarifying, the deep conditioners finally penetrated my hair rather than just sitting on the surface. I noticed that treatments felt more effective and the softness lasted much longer. Another tip I found helpful is to be mindful of the products I used daily. Low porosity hair benefits from lightweight, water-based moisturizers and silicones-free conditioners since heavy, buildup-prone products make the issue worse. I also learned to apply deep conditioners with warmth—such as under a heat cap or with a warm towel—for about 30 to 60 minutes, which further enhances absorption. If you’re struggling with dry, low porosity hair despite deep conditioning, try clarifying first before your treatment. This step ensures you’re not just creating surface softness but achieving true hydration. Over time, you’ll see your hair become healthier, more manageable, and less prone to dryness.
