Babes, it’s probably buildup…

Many people with low porosity hair deep condition regularly but still struggle with dryness. This often happens because deep conditioners are applied on hair that has buildup. Low porosity hair holds onto products easily, which can block water and conditioners from penetrating the hair shaft. When this happens, the hair may feel soft temporarily but quickly becomes dry again. This is surface softness, not true hydration. Clarifying before deep conditioning helps remove buildup so treatments can actually work. Save this if deep conditioning never seems to help your low porosity hair.

... Read moreFrom my own experience, managing low porosity hair can be tricky because it tends to repel moisture rather than absorb it easily. One key realization I had was understanding that buildup from products creates a barrier, preventing deep conditioners from truly hydrating the hair shaft. For months, I noticed my hair felt soft after conditioning, but the softness vanished quickly, leaving my strands dry and brittle. Clarifying shampoo became a game-changer. I started incorporating a gentle clarifying wash once every one or two weeks, which helped remove residue and reset my hair. After clarifying, the deep conditioners finally penetrated my hair rather than just sitting on the surface. I noticed that treatments felt more effective and the softness lasted much longer. Another tip I found helpful is to be mindful of the products I used daily. Low porosity hair benefits from lightweight, water-based moisturizers and silicones-free conditioners since heavy, buildup-prone products make the issue worse. I also learned to apply deep conditioners with warmth—such as under a heat cap or with a warm towel—for about 30 to 60 minutes, which further enhances absorption. If you’re struggling with dry, low porosity hair despite deep conditioning, try clarifying first before your treatment. This step ensures you’re not just creating surface softness but achieving true hydration. Over time, you’ll see your hair become healthier, more manageable, and less prone to dryness. Remember, patience is key, and understanding your hair’s unique needs will guide your healthy hair journey.

Babes this is probably why your hair is dry...
If your low porosity hair stays dry, frizzy, or rough no matter what you use, over-clarifying might be the real problem. Low porosity hair already has a tight cuticle, so when you clarify every week you strip away the natural oils that keep your cuticle flexible. That makes your strands even hard
