PMDD, AuDHD, and age regression tend to show up together for me. It’s the one time each month where I feel like my grip on things loosens. I know it’s hormonal and not something I can simply will away, so the best I can do is lean on the tools and coping skills I’ve built to get through it. #pmdd #overstimulatedmom #audhd #complexptsd

... Read moreLiving with PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder) alongside AuDHD (co-occurring Autism and ADHD) creates a uniquely complex set of challenges, especially when symptoms overlap each month. For me, this period feels like my emotional and cognitive grip loosens significantly. It’s not simply about mood swings—it’s a biological shift that can exacerbate feelings of overstimulation and vulnerability. One experience that really hits close to home is the mix of PMDD and AuDHD triggering intense emotional responses in everyday situations—like dropping groceries and feeling overwhelmed by the resulting sensory and emotional flood. These moments may seem small to others, but for someone navigating these layered conditions, they’re important signals to pause and care for oneself. To cope, I've developed a toolkit over time that combines physical strategies like deep breathing and sensory grounding techniques with mental reframing—reminding myself that this isn’t a failure but a temporary state heavily influenced by hormonal changes. Age regression moments, where I may feel childlike or in need of extra comfort, are part of this too, and I try to honor that need with self-compassion rather than resistance. Finding support is crucial, whether it’s from understanding friends or professional networks familiar with PMDD and AuDHD. Small acts, like someone helping me pick up dropped items, can feel profoundly supportive and grounding in these vulnerable moments. Sharing experiences within communities, whether online or in person, helps reduce the isolation this combination of conditions can bring. Overall, managing PMDD and AuDHD is about acceptance, preparation, and gentle self-care. Using personalized coping mechanisms helps me face these monthly challenges with more resilience, recognizing that while the hormonal influence can’t be willed away, the way I respond to it can be nurtured and improved.
