PMDD is the ghost that haunts my body that no one realizes is already in survival mode. #pmdd #cptsd #overstimulatedmom #neurodivergent
Living with PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder) can feel like a constant battle with an invisible force that profoundly disrupts daily life. For those of us who also experience CPTSD (Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder), PMDD doesn't merely cause physical symptoms; it activates deep-seated trauma responses that push the body and mind further into survival mode. This cycle can escalate feelings of anxiety, overwhelm, and emotional dysregulation, particularly for neurodivergent individuals who may already process sensory input differently. From my own experience, when PMDD episodes coincide with CPTSD triggers, the overstimulation becomes almost unbearable. As an overstimulated mom, everyday responsibilities can quickly feel insurmountable, which increases stress levels and worsens the symptoms. Recognizing these connections has been key to managing my mental health more effectively. For example, I’ve found that creating structured, low-stimulus environments during high-risk times helps reduce overwhelm. Moreover, building a support network that understands both PMDD and CPTSD has made a substantial difference. It’s important to educate friends and family about how these conditions interplay so they can provide the right kind of emotional support. Therapies focusing on trauma-informed care alongside hormonal and lifestyle management have also provided relief and a sense of control. If you’re neurodivergent and struggling with PMDD triggering CPTSD, know that you’re not alone. Sharing experiences and coping strategies can empower you and help break the silence surrounding these overlapping challenges. Through awareness and tailored self-care, it’s possible to navigate survival mode and reclaim a higher quality of life.
