Eat with your eyes first!

Made this because I wanted tres leches with a nutty twist… and the caramel drizzle made it even better 😭🤍

Recipe:

Bake a sponge cake using eggs, sugar, flour, and baking powder.

Mix milk + evaporated milk + condensed milk + pistachio paste/crushed pistachios for the soak.

Poke holes in warm cake and slowly pour the milk mixture over it. Chill well.

Topping:

Whipped cream → caramel drizzle → roasted pistachios

I lightly roast the pistachios first for extra flavor. Also tastes sooo much better the next day 🫶

... Read moreIf you’re like me and enjoy putting a unique spin on classic desserts, then this pistachio tres leches cake is a must-try. The combination of traditional tres leches ingredients with the nutty flavor of pistachios creates a dessert that’s both rich and refreshing. When I first made this, I was pleasantly surprised by how well the pistachios complemented the creamy milk soak. Roasting the pistachios lightly before adding them as a topping really amplifies their flavor and adds a delightful crunch. One tip I found useful is to poke numerous small holes in the warm sponge cake, which helps the milk mixture absorb evenly and deeply, resulting in a moist and luscious texture. Chilling the cake overnight works wonders, as the flavors meld beautifully and the cake becomes even more satisfying the next day. Also, the caramel drizzle isn’t just a pretty decorative touch—it adds a subtle sweetness and counterbalances the richness of the milks and cream. Whipped cream on top lightens the dessert and makes it perfectly indulgent. If you want to customize this recipe further, consider swapping pistachios for other nuts like almonds or hazelnuts, or infusing the milk mixture with a hint of cinnamon or vanilla for extra warmth. This dessert is perfect for celebrations or whenever you crave something special. Eating with your eyes truly does come first here; the gorgeous green pistachios against the white cream and golden caramel make it irresistibly inviting.
