So you’ve been told you may have CPTSD…

Complex PTSD doesn’t always look like what you’d expect. If you’ve ever wondered why you react the way you do, this one’s for you. 💛🩵 #ComplexPTSD

“5 signs of complex PTSD that get mistaken for ‘just your personality’”

1. Chronic people-pleasing that leaves you exhausted

2. Feeling “too much” or “too sensitive” — when really you’re overregulated from years of hypervigilance

3. Struggling to name what you feel, only that something’s “off”

4. An inner critic that sounds harsher than anyone has ever spoken to you

5. Feeling disconnected from your body — like you’re watching your life instead of living it

“None of these mean something’s wrong with you. They mean something happened to you — and healing is possible. Save this, share it with someone who needs it. 💛

... Read moreLiving with Complex PTSD often means experiencing symptoms that can be hard to pinpoint or explain. From personal experience, what stood out most was the constant feeling of being "too sensitive" or overwhelmed in everyday situations. Many people with CPTSD become hypervigilant, alert to potential threats even in safe environments, which leads to exhaustion from emotional overregulation. It's important to recognize that these reactions are not flaws or personality weaknesses but survival mechanisms developed in response to trauma. One of the most challenging aspects is the harsh inner critic that often mirrors or even exceeds negative voices from childhood or past experiences. This internal dialogue can significantly impact self-esteem and contribute to feelings of disconnection from your own body, as if you're merely observing life rather than fully participating in it. Learning to identify and gently challenge this critical voice has been a crucial step in my path to healing. People-pleasing behavior, while initially seeming like kindness, can actually drain emotional energy and prevent genuine self-expression. It’s a coping strategy to maintain safety and avoid conflict but ultimately leaves one feeling depleted and misunderstood. Acknowledging these patterns opens the door to developing healthier boundaries and self-care practices. If you find yourself struggling to name or understand your emotions, it can help to engage in mindful self-reflection or work with trauma-informed therapists who specialize in CPTSD. Healing is not linear, but with the right support and resources, it’s absolutely attainable. Remember, these signs are clues pointing toward your resilience and the possibility for recovery—not a definition of who you are.
