Pepper steak and rice
Pepper steak and rice has always been a favorite comfort food that my mom use to make! Tender steak slices smothered in a gravy and fresh peppers! Definitely highly requested in my household.
Ingredients:
* 1 lb steak (sirloin or flank, sliced thin)
* 1 green bell pepper
* 1 red bell pepper
* 1/2 onion (sliced)
* 2 cloves garlic (minced)
* 2 tbsp oil
* 2 tbsp butter
Seasonings
* Salt & pepper
* Garlic powder
* Onion powder
* Paprika
* Cajun seasoning (optional but good 👀)
Sauce/Gravy
* 2 cups beef broth
* 2 tbsp soy sauce
* 1 tbsp Worcestershire
* 1 tbsp brown sugar
* 1 tbsp cornstarch + 2 tbsp water (slurry)
Rice
* 2 cups cooked white rice
* Butter + pinch of salt
1. Season your steak
* Toss with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika (don’t be shy)
2. Sear it
* Heat oil in a pan, cook steak quick on high heat
* Don’t overcook, just get color then take it out
3. Veggies
* Same pan → add butter
* Throw in onions + peppers, cook till soft
* Add garlic last so it don’t burn
4. Make the gravy
* Pour in beef broth, soy sauce, Worcestershire, brown sugar
* Let it simmer 5–7 mins
5. Thicken it
* Add cornstarch slurry
* Stir till it get that glossy, thick gravy
6. Bring it together
* Add steak back in
* Let everything simmer together for a few minutes
7. Serve it up
* Rice in the middle
* Pepper steak all around
* Sprinkle a lil parsley if you feeling fancy
Tippppp:
Add a little heavy cream or a little piece of butter to make it extra rich!
