My family has been making this recipe for years and years. It’s sooooo good.
The original recipe is listed below. I modify this recipe a bit to make it faster and easier. Instead of raw chicken breast, I use rotisserie chicken. I used 1 pound because I used a 9x9 pan, but if I was using a 13x9 I would use 2 pounds of rotisserie chicken. If using rotisserie chicken bake for 35 minutes covered and then 10 minutes uncovered on 350. If using regular chicken breast follow directions below.
Ingredients
1 (10.5 ounce) can condensed cream of chicken soup
1/2 cup milk
6 skinless, boneless chicken breasts
6 slices Swiss cheese
1 box herb-seasoned stuffing mix
1/2 cup butter, melted
Parmesan cheese
Salt
Pepper
Directions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease an 8x12-inch baking dish.
Whisk condensed soup and milk together in a small bowl until well combined.
Arrange chicken in the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle Parmesan, salt, and pepper over chicken. Layer each breast with a slice Swiss cheese, then spoon soup mixture over top. Sprinkle with stuffing mix and drizzle with butter.
Cover and bake in the preheated oven until no longer pink in the center and the juices run clear, about 50 minutes. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read at least 165 degrees F (74 degrees C
... Read moreSwiss Chicken Casserole is a comforting dish that many families love because of its rich flavors and ease of preparation. This recipe uniquely combines creamy condensed chicken soup and milk to create a luscious sauce that perfectly complements the tender chicken breasts. Using Swiss cheese adds a mild, nutty flavor and creamy texture, while the herb-seasoned stuffing mix topping provides a delightful crunch and added seasoning.
For those looking to save time, substituting raw chicken breasts for rotisserie chicken is a fantastic shortcut. By using pre-cooked rotisserie chicken, you significantly reduce cooking time while still getting all the delicious, comforting flavors of the casserole. When using rotisserie chicken, it’s best to bake the dish covered for 35 minutes and then uncovered for an additional 10 minutes at 350°F to allow the topping to crisp up.
An essential part of this recipe is the layering technique: sprinkling Parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper over the chicken breasts before adding the Swiss cheese slice, and then spooning the soup and milk mixture on top. This layering enhances the flavor profile by combining sharp, creamy, and savory tastes. The melted butter drizzled over the stuffing mix adds richness and helps the topping brown beautifully in the oven.
To ensure perfect doneness, use an instant-read thermometer to check that the internal temperature of the casserole reaches 165°F (74°C). This guarantees the chicken is safe to eat and juicy.
This Swiss Chicken Casserole makes a wonderful weeknight dinner but is also hearty enough for holiday gatherings or potluck meals. Pair it with simple sides like steamed vegetables or a fresh green salad to balance the richness of the casserole.
For variety, you can customize this recipe by adding mushrooms, garlic, or sautéed onions for extra depth of flavor. Additionally, try different herb-seasoned stuffing mixes or add a sprinkle of paprika on top before baking for a hint of smokiness.
In summary, the Swiss Chicken Casserole is a reliable, delicious, and adaptable recipe that brings comfort and convenience to your table, especially when using rotisserie chicken as a quick alternative.
