🖤things that help me survive my BPD🖤

5/28 Edited to

... Read moreLiving with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) can often feel overwhelming, but over time, I’ve found that certain strategies and tools make a significant difference in my ability to cope and survive. What really helps me is recognizing that my feelings and experiences are valid, even when they feel intense or confusing. Lowering my expectations on tough days and reminding myself that healing isn’t linear provide the mental space I need to manage each moment without additional pressure. One technique that truly grounds me is focusing on my senses — what I see, feel, hear, and smell. For example, using soft lighting and candles creates a calming atmosphere, while long showers help me physically and mentally relax. Weighted blankets and hugs, whether from loved ones or a comforting object, bring me a sense of safety and calm. I also rely on music that resonates with my mood, especially songs that seem to understand the complexity of my emotions. Journaling during spiral moments allows me to externalize my thoughts and better process them, which can reduce the intensity of my distress. Distraction without shame is another powerful approach; it’s important to engage in activities I love and talk with safe people who offer support and validation. Reminding myself daily that BPD is a temporary feeling, not who I am, helps me avoid identifying solely with the disorder. I’ve learned to set healthy boundaries and accept that it’s okay to change my mind or prioritize my needs. This is crucial because BPD can make emotional intensity feel all-consuming, but acknowledging that my sensitivity is actually a productive part of me helps reframe how I see my experiences. Taking one day at a time and focusing on small steps rather than perfect outcomes contributes to a sense of progress. Lastly, I keep daily reminders such as: "Your needs matter," "You deserve consistency," and "Doing better than you think," close by. These affirmations create a supportive inner voice that fosters resilience. Surviving BPD doesn't mean thriving every moment, but each step toward self-understanding and self-care is part of a meaningful journey toward healing.
