Helper’s diary
As someone working as a helper in Singapore, I’ve found that meals are more than just food—they're a vital source of energy for long, busy days. Typically, my day starts with a breakfast that’s easy to prepare yet filling, often including items like bread, eggs, or local fruits. For lunch, I usually eat simple meals that are both affordable and satisfying, such as rice with vegetables, chicken, or fish. Dinner often mirrors lunch with a focus on balanced nutrients. In my experience, helpers often share meal ideas and tips on preparing quick, healthy dishes despite limited kitchen resources. It’s important for us to maintain good nutrition to stay active and productive. Occasionally, we also get to enjoy local Singaporean dishes like Hainanese chicken rice or laksa during special days. Meal planning as a helper involves creativity and careful budgeting. I try to include vegetables and protein in every meal, which helps me stay strong. Drinking plenty of water and sometimes tea also keeps me hydrated throughout the day. Overall, the meals I eat are straightforward but fulfilling, reflecting a mix of home-cooked and local flavors that support my well-being as I work away from home.
