things i would tell you as your gym big sister…
i say all of this with the most love & from a super caring pov 🫶🏼
✨ progress takes TIME — if you don’t see results in 2 weeks, that doesn’t mean it’s not working. my biggest transformation happened 6 months in. trust the process & stay patient
✨ consistency will always beat perfection — even the bare minimum daily beats going “all in” once a week
✨ you CAN’T spot reduce fat — fat loss happens overall. genetics decide where you lose first & training an area more, builds muscle that can make it look leaner, but it won’t magically shrink fat
✨ being “toned” means building muscle — lifting doesn’t make you “bulky.” that comes from a long time of eating in surplus + progressive training. your 5lb curls done at lightning speed is cardio, not hypertrophy
✨ the scale isn’t the only progress tracker — look at your mindset, relationship with food, strength, energy, clothes fitting, confidence. the scale literally fluctuates daily, stop fixating on it !!!!!
✨ REAL discipline is doing it when you don’t want to — balance is key, but skipping the gym every time you’re “tired” or grabbing the whole chocolate bar because you’re “on your period” isn’t alignment with your goals
✨ food is NEVER a reward — pleeeeease stop tying workouts to “earning” food. rewarding yourself with a donut post workout just reinforces a bad cycle. if you want the donut, eat it, but it should never be because you “deserved it” !!!
✨ alcohol matters — even vodka or tequila sodas… 3 drinks in, you may as well have had the milkshake you were craving !! it halts fat burning, tanks sleep, lowers workout performance, and usually leads to late night snacking
i’ll always love & applaud ANY effort (something > nothing), but if you want REAL results & to actually reach your goals, these are the things you need to dial in 💪🏼
As your gym big sister might tell you, fitness is a journey filled with ups and downs, and understanding the nuances can truly change your approach and results. Beyond the key tips shared, it's important to recognize that fitness progress involves both physical and mental growth. Patience is essential—muscle adaptation and fat loss take time as your body adjusts to new demands. For many, the most significant transformations happen months into consistent training, so give yourself grace. Additionally, embracing consistency means creating daily or regular habits that keep you moving forward rather than burning out with intense but infrequent workouts. Try setting manageable goals such as a 10-minute walk or a short strength session on busy days to build momentum. Remember, the battle isn't just physical but mental—maintaining motivation through discipline even when enthusiasm wanes is often what separates short-term effort from sustainable change. Understanding fat loss is fundamental: spot reduction is a myth, so combining full-body workouts with nutritious eating will ensure fat reduction overall while strength training sculpts muscle tone. This nuance helps manage expectations and prevents frustration with stubborn areas. Being 'toned' equals muscle development without bulk; lightweight, high-repetition movements are more cardio-focused, so adding progressive overload to your lifting routine gradually builds lean muscle. This process enhances metabolism, appearance, and functional strength. Tracking progress extends far beyond the scale. Instead, observe how your clothes fit, your energy levels, your confidence, and your food relationship—all vital indicators of health gains. Steer away from the scale fixation which can fluctuate daily due to water retention and other factors. Food should never equate to a reward. Practicing mindful eating helps break cycles where exercise justifies indulgence. Enjoy treats mindfully without guilt, focusing on nourishment and balance rather than conditional rewards. Lastly, alcohol consumption—even seemingly 'light' drinks like vodka sodas—can significantly affect fat burning, recovery, sleep quality, and even trigger late-night cravings. Moderation is key for aligning your lifestyle to your fitness goals. Incorporating these insights while honoring your effort leads to a healthier relationship with fitness, improves results, and fosters long-term wellness. Stay patient, consistent, and kind to yourself—your gym big sister’s advice is all about empowering your journey.
