The dry weather from the LA fires (and LA’s dryness in general) hit us hard this week. My little one’s cheeks went from rosy to peeling overnight, and it got so bad that he cried when we tried to apply moisturizers or even a mild cooling gel ☹️ i decided to go back to basics: 🥣 an oatmeal bath! here’s how i did it!
1. Took about 1.5 cups of oatmeal and put it in a clean sock
2. Tied the sock up and ran it under hot water in the tub until the water turned milky (I also massaged the sock so the oat water circulates)
3. Let it soak for about 10 minutes, then added cold water to bring it to baby-safe temperature. You don’t want to put oats directly in the water because it can clog the drains
4. Bathed with my baby (he loves baths together, and it’s great for bonding!) while he splish-splashed away in the soothing water 💖 i made sure to wet his cheeks frequently with the oat water
We bathed for about 15-20 minutes, and this morning, his cheeks are so much better 😌 No peeling, minimal redness. I’ll likely to this again his next bath. Highly recommend if your baby is dealing with dry skin!
... Read moreDry skin in babies can be distressing for both parent and child, often leading to discomfort and irritation. Oatmeal baths have been recognized for their natural soothing properties and ability to provide relief from skin dryness and itching.
For parents dealing with dry skin conditions, it's essential to choose the right type of oatmeal. Colloidal oatmeal, finely ground oats, is specifically beneficial as it can create a protective barrier on the skin, locking in moisture. The process is simple: combine oats in a sock, create a milky bath, and allow your child to soak. Not only does this remedy work wonders for the skin, but it also offers a calming and enjoyable bathing experience for your little one.
In addition to oatmeal baths, ensure to keep your baby hydrated and moisturized after bathing to maintain optimal skin health. Using gentle, fragrance-free moisturizers can help in preserving the skin's hydration after an oatmeal bath.
It's always good to consult with a pediatrician if your baby's dry skin persists, as it can indicate underlying conditions such as eczema or allergies. Providing relief through natural remedies like oatmeal baths enhances your baby's comfort while nurturing the bond between you during these caring moments.
My daughter has crazy dry skin! I’m definitely going to try this🥰❤️
