Is skin cancer a new phenomenon?

No. Skin cancer has been documented since the Egyptian times.

Correlation does not equal causation, even though people want to demonize sunscreen. Prior to sunscreen, people still got skin cancer, but we didnt have the technology for early detection therefore those lesions would metastasize and be documented as other forms of skin cancer despite the root cause being melanoma.

Alas, the antisunscreen people never fail to amaze me by the way they think!

... Read moreSkin cancer is often misunderstood as a modern health issue, but its origins date back thousands of years. Historical medical texts and archaeological findings show that skin cancer was documented during Egyptian times, highlighting that the disease has been affecting humans long before modern science emerged. This historical perspective is essential in debunking common misconceptions, especially regarding the role of sunscreen. It’s crucial to understand that correlation does not imply causation. Although some groups criticize sunscreen, blaming it for rising skin cancer rates, research demonstrates otherwise. Before the invention and widespread use of sunscreen, skin cancer still occurred frequently. The lack of advanced diagnostic tools meant many skin cancers, including melanoma, were not detected early and thus were often misclassified or diagnosed only after metastasis. Sunscreen acts as a protective barrier, blocking harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays from damaging skin cells. UV exposure is a well-established primary risk factor for developing skin cancer, making sunscreen a key preventive tool. Early detection technologies and increased awareness have improved cancer outcomes and survival rates significantly. Negating sunscreen’s benefits can lead to increased UV exposure and, consequently, greater skin cancer risk. Public health recommendations consistently emphasize daily sunscreen use along with other protective measures such as wearing hats and seeking shade during peak sunlight hours. Educating oneself about the history and science behind skin cancer and sunscreen helps dismantle unfounded fears and encourages informed decisions to protect skin health. Awareness campaigns, dermatological research, and technological advancements contribute to better prevention, early detection, and treatment — efforts essential to reducing the global burden of skin cancer.

It highlights the role of DNA, active ingredients, and treatments in combating visible signs of aging, and includes quotes on embracing imperfections and the complex biological process of skin aging.
The image explains intrinsic and extrinsic skin aging, detailing how natural aging leads to thinner epidermis, slower cell replication, dehydration, and loss of volume, collagen, and elastin. It describes intrinsic aging as a slow, irreversible process and extrinsic aging as due to external factors.
The image lists factors for intrinsic aging (passage of time, physiology, genetics) and extrinsic aging (sun exposure, diet, lifestyle, stress). It notes that 85% of aging is due to external factors and describes visible changes like lentigines, telangiectasia, and texture changes in aging skin.
