When I first grabbed both boxes, I was really struck by how similar the ingredient lists looked at a glance, especially with both boasting '100% Whole Grains' and '15g Protein' per serving. This instantly made me think, 'Could this really be a dupe?' As I dug a little deeper, eyeing those nutrition panels side-by-side (just like in my photos comparing the Kodiak Power Cakes Buttermilk Flapjack & Waffle Mix and the Millville Protein Pancake & Waffle Mix Buttermilk), I noticed a few things that really sealed the deal for me or helped me understand the differences. The Millville mix definitely has a bit more sugar and sodium, as noted in the visual comparison. This explains why I found it tasted slightly sweeter and perhaps a touch richer right out of the gate. For someone watching their sugar intake extremely closely, Kodiak might be the obvious pick. But if you're like me and sometimes crave that little extra sweetness without adding syrup, Aldi's version hits the spot without feeling overly sweet. Both mixes deliver 15g of protein, typically from whey and milk protein concentrates, which is awesome for a quick, high-protein breakfast. I appreciate that neither relies solely on wheat flour for protein, giving a more balanced amino acid profile, which is great for muscle recovery and satiety. Beyond the taste, the cooking experience matters! I found that both mixes performed really well on the griddle. They cooked up fluffy and golden, and the batter consistency was pretty similar. I felt the Millville might have been a tiny bit thicker, yielding a slightly denser pancake, which I actually prefer sometimes. The '100% Whole Grain' claim on both boxes means you’re getting good fiber too, which is an added bonus for digestive health. Let's be real, the price difference is HUGE. Getting essentially the same protein and whole grains, with only minor nutritional tweaks, for half the price at Aldi ($3 for 20oz vs. $6 for 20oz of Kodiak!) is what makes the Millville mix such a standout dupe. For families or anyone trying to eat well on a budget, this is a no-brainer. It's hard to justify paying double for something that performs so similarly in taste and nutrition. So, who should choose which? If you're a purist who wants absolutely minimal added sugar and sodium, and don't mind the higher price point, Kodiak is fantastic. But if you're looking for an incredibly affordable, delicious, and protein-packed breakfast that tastes great and performs almost identically to its pricier counterpart, then the Millville Protein Pancake & Waffle Mix from Aldi is your go-to. It's a true champion in the 'dupe' world! And remember, these mixes aren't just for pancakes! I've successfully used both for making protein waffles—just adjust the liquid slightly to achieve a thicker batter. You can also elevate your breakfast game by adding fresh berries, a scoop of Greek yogurt, or even a sprinkle of cinnamon right into the batter for extra flavor and nutrients. Too much carbs!. I prefer make almond meal pancakes, with 2 eggs, 1 cup almond meal, 1 teaspoon vanilla, pinch of salt, 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder aluminum free, 1 tablespoons avocado oil and 1 or 2 teaspoon butter. You can substitute oil for vanilla almond milk unsweetened.
