Propaganda I’m not falling for: Career edition

Let’s talk about myths, traps, and BS advice that almost got me.

1. Just pick a high paying job and you’ll be happy: FALSE, nothings worse than hating your 9-5 with a good salary

2. You need 10 years of experience to start something of your own.. : NOPE, experience is great, but ideas + action > perfection

3. Stick to one career path.. don’t jump around: THE best people I know have pivoted 3-5 times. Growth ≠ failure

4. Just follow your passion and everything will work out. - passion matters, but it also needs strategy, structure and support.

5. Your job title defines your worth.. NO, you’re allowed to be in progress, you’re allowed to build.

There’s so much career advice out there that sounds wise until you actually live through it.

I used to believe that if I picked a “good” career, the kind that looks impressive on LinkedIn, makes my parents proud and pays decently, I’d be fine. Secure, maybe even fulfilled.

So I went into dentistry, I tried to convince myself it was my calling. I pushed through clinical days that drained me but deep down. I felt stuck.. I wasn’t growing, I was shrinking.

It’s not always linear, it’s not always glamorous, but I pivoted and for the first time it feels aligned.

That’s why I used mindprint, the free quiz that helped me figure out my own work style, strengths, and values. Not based on what people tell you to do🙆🏼

Because you don’t need to wait 10 years to start listening to yourself

And you DONT need to fall for career propaganda just because it’s loud.

Try mindprint 🤍🫶🏻

... Read moreIn today’s job market, navigating career choices can be overwhelmingly difficult, particularly with the plethora of advice circulating. Many assume that financial security equates to job satisfaction, but studies reveal that over 50% of workers are dissatisfied with their jobs. This highlights the importance of aligning your career with personal values and passions rather than just salary expectations. Moreover, the misconception that you must adhere to one career path is increasingly outdated. Evidence suggests that professionals who diversify their experiences and pivot across various roles often achieve greater fulfillment and success. For instance, industries are evolving rapidly, with many companies valuing adaptability and a wide-ranging skillset over traditional career trajectories. Also, chasing after passion alone can be deceptive—strategic planning is essential. Combining your interests with actionable goals is crucial to transforming passion into productivity. Many successful professionals today use tools and assessments to identify their unique strengths. Mindprint is an excellent resource for discovering your work style and preferences, ensuring that your career decisions reflect your true self rather than societal expectations. Finally, it's vital to remember that your job title does not define your worth. Career progress is a personal journey, and many individuals find their true path through exploration and self-discovery. Building a fulfilling career involves recognizing that you are a work in progress, capable of evolving beyond a single job title. Emphasizing growth over labels allows you to continually reshape your career in alignment with your values.
