Meatballs and Gravy
Making meatballs and gravy at home is a comforting and satisfying meal that’s easier than you might think. I usually start by searing either store-bought or freshly made meatballs until they’re nicely browned, which locks in all those juicy flavors. While the meatballs rest, I soften chopped onions and celery in a pan, adding about a teaspoon of flour to help thicken the gravy naturally. Next, I combine 2 cups of beef broth with a tablespoon each of Worcestershire sauce and ketchup to create a perfect balance of umami and subtle sweetness. Adding a teaspoon of minced garlic and a pinch of garlic powder intensifies the aroma and taste. The seared meatballs go right back into the pan to simmer gently in this flavorful gravy until they’re heated through and tender. One of my favorite ways to enjoy this dish is serving it hot over creamy mashed potatoes or fluffy rice. The gravy soaks up beautifully, making each bite rich and satisfying. This recipe is quite versatile—you can tweak the seasoning based on what you have on hand or add a splash of cream for extra richness. It’s a perfect go-to comfort food for any day, especially when you want something hearty without much fuss.
