Creating a starter from scratch requires patience, as it involves cultivating natural yeast and bacteria over several days through regular feedings. I found that keeping my starter in a warm spot and feeding it consistently helped it become bubbly and active, which is the key to a good rise in your bread. Baking the loaf itself is a beautiful process where you get to work with a living dough that responds to your touch. One tip I learned is that allowing the dough a longer fermentation period enhances the flavor and texture significantly. The crispy crust and chewy crumb of a homemade sourdough loaf feel like a real accomplishment after all the effort. Transforming the sourdough loaf into French toast is a wonderful way to enjoy your hard work in a new form. The slight tanginess of the sourdough pairs wonderfully with the sweet, custardy batter, creating a breakfast treat that’s both comforting and unique. I like to add a sprinkle of cinnamon and a drizzle of maple syrup to elevate the flavors. If you’re considering trying sourdough baking, my advice is to embrace the learning process and not worry about perfection.
