New moms NEED to see this before starting solids 🥰

1/23 Edited to

... Read moreStarting solids with your baby is a milestone filled with excitement and questions. From my own experience, prioritizing iron-rich foods such as meats, lentils, and dark leafy greens early on made a significant difference in my baby's energy and development because by six months, natural iron stores diminish quickly. I also found that ensuring my baby was seated upright at a 90-degree angle during feeding not only helped with swallowing safety but also reduced the risk of choking, making the feeding process much smoother. Offering larger strips of food rather than tiny pieces might feel counterintuitive, but it actually helps babies who haven’t yet developed a precise pincer grasp manage their food better and reduces airway obstruction. I was initially nervous about introducing common allergens like peanuts, eggs, and dairy before 12 months, but doing so early helped lessen the risk of allergies significantly; this proactive approach eased my concerns about future allergic reactions. Hydration was another important factor I paid attention to by giving small amounts of water with meals, which supported swallowing and helped prevent constipation without replacing breast milk or formula. Importantly, I learned never to pressure my little one to eat, respecting their cues to avoid creating food aversions. Expecting gagging to occur was crucial—it looks scary but is a normal part of learning to swallow and not something to panic about. Silent choking is different and always warrants immediate attention. Using tools, such as food tracking apps, can simplify introducing new foods and help monitor allergens safely. Finally, moving from purees to textured foods around 8-9 months helped my baby develop chewing skills, reflecting their natural gum strength. This gradual progression built their eating confidence and enjoyment of food. These insights combine safe practices and nutritional guidance, making the journey of starting solids less overwhelming and more joyful for both parents and babies.
