Sweet rice pudding ❤️
In Nepal Shrawan 15 is popularly known as (sweet rice pudding eating day)Khīr Khāne Din, the day when people traditionally eat sweet rice pudding. It falls during the month of Shrawan (July–August), which is the middle of the monsoon season when rice plants are growing in the fields. Farmers take a short break from their hard agricultural work and enjoy a comforting bowl of Kheer with family and friends. Kheer is made by slowly cooking rice in milk until it becomes creamy and thick, then sweetened with sugar. It is often flavored with cardamom and topped with nuts such as cashews, almonds, and raisins. Because milk and rice are considered symbols of prosperity and nourishment, eating kheer on this day represents gratitude for the growing crops and hopes for a successful harvest.
There is also a common saying in Nepal: “Shrawan 15 ma khīr khayo bhane saal bhari khīr khane jasto huncha,” meaning that if you eat kheer on Shrawan 15, it symbolizes abundance and sweetness throughout the year. Many families therefore make sure to cook and share this special dish on that day. 🥣🌾
