Healthy fats and low cals for my Accutane Girlies

Here I used Dave's killer bread 21 whole grains and seeds thin slice.

PB&J:

Step 1: heat one slice of bread on the pan

Step 2: when the bread is warm flip and put however much peanut butter you want on half of the slice Step 3: take off pan and put jelly of choice in the other half

Total Fat: depending on what brand of peanut butter and how much you use- about 10-15g

Avo Toast & Cheese Omelette:

Step 1: crack an egg in a mixing bowl and add salt and pepper (and paprika if you like) AND mix

Step 2: heat on medium a small pan and put some butter on the pan to melt the whole bottom of the pan

Step 3: pour the egg on the pan

Step 4: while the egg is cooking but the bread on a different pan to heat

Step 5: flip the egg in half and put some cheese then flip the sides inward

Step 6: cut half an avocado and smash in the bread slice and add salt and pepper

Step 7: put the egg on top of the avocado toast

Total fat: about 13g

... Read moreNavigating Accutane can be a journey, and I’ve learned firsthand how much your diet plays a role in feeling your best and supporting your skin. Beyond just my favorite breakfast ideas, I wanted to dive a bit deeper into why healthy fats and nutrient-dense foods are so vital, especially when you're on this medication. My dermatologist always stressed the importance of healthy fats for Accutane absorption. It’s not just about eating more fat, but eating the right kinds. Accutane is fat-soluble, meaning your body needs dietary fat to properly absorb and utilize the medication. Without enough healthy fats, you might not be getting the full benefits, and you could feel even more dryness and discomfort. I personally noticed a huge difference in my side effects when I made sure to include sources like avocado, nuts, seeds, and olive oil in every meal. It really helped with the dryness around my lips and eyes. Let's talk about the superstars from my breakfast plate: avocado and eggs. These aren't just delicious; they’re powerhouses for your body, especially while on Accutane. Avocados are packed with monounsaturated fats, which are fantastic for skin hydration and elasticity—something we all need when Accutane is working its magic. They also contain vitamins C, E, K, and B-6, which are powerful antioxidants that protect your skin cells. As for eggs, they're a complete protein source and rich in choline, biotin, and vitamins A, D, and E. These nutrients are crucial for cell regeneration and overall skin health. I've found that having that avocado toast topped with a folded omelette in the morning not only keeps me full but also gives me a noticeable glow! It’s incredible what these simple foods can do for your skin from the inside out. While my original post focused on breakfast, healthy eating on Accutane extends to all meals. For dinner, I often lean towards similar principles: lean protein, healthy fats, and plenty of vegetables. Think baked salmon drizzled with olive oil and a side of roasted sweet potatoes, or a big salad with grilled chicken, a generous amount of fresh avocado slices, and a homemade vinaigrette. Another easy go-to is whole grain pasta with pesto (packed with healthy fats from pine nuts and olive oil) and cherry tomatoes. It's about finding meals that are satisfying and provide those essential nutrients. You might see searches for "low fat meal options," but for Accutane, it's generally the opposite – you want *high fat meals for Accutane*, but specifically *healthy fats*. Avoiding all fats can actually hinder your medication's effectiveness and worsen dryness. It’s a common misconception, but embracing good fats is key. And remember the importance of whole grains, like the whole grain bread I use for my peanut butter and jelly? Incorporating items like whole grain crackers with hummus or some avocado can be a great snack option too. They provide fiber and sustained energy, which is a bonus when you're feeling a bit fatigued. Ultimately, fueling your body with these nourishing foods makes the Accutane journey smoother and helps you achieve that healthy skin glow we're all aiming for. It's all about making smart, delicious choices!
