This is the SOME BY MI PDRN Spirulina Poreless Primer.

I did NOT finish this! I love the idea of a PDRN / KBeauty poreless primer infused with skincare, but this was TERRIBLE! No matter how long I let it dry down, it mixed and pilled with my skincare and I had to take it off and redo my skincare before being able to do my base makeup. Even if I applied it to only one small area of my face it did this too. I've never had a product pill up this badly on my face. I got 3 products from this brand to try (I think it's a new brand? or at least new to Ulta), and the other two products I absolutely love, but I did not like this at all. Super disappointed! It almost had the same texture / consistency of a deodorant and I did not enjoy putting that on my face.

... Read moreThere's nothing quite as frustrating as being excited for a new beauty product, especially one with promising ingredients like PDRN and Spirulina in a K-Beauty primer, only to have it completely fall flat. My experience with the SOME BY MI PDRN Spirulina Poreless Primer was exactly that – a letdown. But why do some primers pill, and how can we avoid this common makeup mishap? Primer pilling, where the product forms tiny balls or flakes on your skin, is a common issue that can ruin your entire makeup application. It often happens for a few key reasons. Sometimes, it's about product incompatibility; certain ingredients in your primer might not mix well with your skincare products, causing them to separate. Another culprit can be applying too much product – a little primer goes a long way! Over-applying can lead to excess product sitting on the skin's surface, ready to clump. Your application technique matters too; rubbing too vigorously or not allowing enough drying time between skincare steps and primer application can also cause pilling. To prevent this, I've learned a few tricks. First, always ensure your skincare has fully absorbed and dried down before applying any primer. Give it a minute or two! Second, use only a pea-sized amount of primer and gently pat or lightly spread it onto your skin, rather than rubbing it in. Think of it as creating a smooth canvas, not scrubbing it clean. Third, consider the formulation. Silicone-based primers, while great for blurring pores, can sometimes pill if layered over water-based products without proper absorption time. Conversely, water-based primers might struggle with oilier foundations. When looking for a good poreless primer, I now pay much closer attention to texture and ingredient lists. I seek out reviews that specifically mention how a primer layers with other products. A good primer should feel lightweight, absorb easily, and create a smooth, almost velvety finish without feeling heavy or tacky. The promise of skincare-infused primers like the Spirulina Poreless Primer is tempting, but the performance is key. It's a reminder that even innovative ingredients don't guarantee a flawless experience if the formulation isn't right. It's also worth remembering that a single bad product doesn't necessarily reflect poorly on an entire brand. I've had great experiences with other items from the same brand, which is why this particular primer was such a surprise. This highlights why thorough product reviews are so important – they offer real-world experiences that go beyond marketing claims. As consumers, we're becoming more conscious not just of product efficacy but also of a brand's overall values, including ethical sourcing or cruelty-free practices. While my review of this 'Poreless Primer' was purely about its performance, knowing about a brand’s wider commitments can also influence purchasing decisions for many of us. Ultimately, arming ourselves with information, whether it's about product performance or brand ethics, helps us make more informed and satisfying beauty choices.
