What I Ate to Lose 10lbs
The key to a sustainable diet is to include the foods that you like and to make a few tweaks to it.
Eating more whole foods and protein will keep you full longer than processed foods. Swap high calorie items like sauces with low calorie alternatives or use less of it. Cut your portion sizes by 1/3 or 1/2 if you don’t want to track your food.
I am 5’3 1/2 and went from 142lbs to 132lbs in 5 months. My goal is to lose weight slowly so I can keep as much muscle mass.

From my experience, the secret to sustainable weight loss isn't about drastic restrictions — it's about smart, manageable changes. I focused on eating more whole foods and increasing my protein intake, which helped me feel full and satisfied throughout the day. For example, incorporating cottage cheese as a snack was a game changer; it's high in protein (31g) yet only around 245 calories, making it perfect for curbing hunger without excess calories. I also paid close attention to the quality and quantity of the foods I ate. I learned that swapping high-calorie sauces with low-calorie alternatives or simply reducing their use helped cut unnecessary calories without sacrificing flavor. Portion control was key too; I typically reduced my portions by about a third to a half instead of tracking every calorie, which made the process less overwhelming. On typical days, my meals included satisfying options like a Japanese sweet potato with cheese (about 180 calories and 8g protein) for breakfast, and a salmon poke bowl paired with a protein shake in the evening to support my muscle maintenance goals. Staying hydrated and choosing snacks like watermelon, though low in protein, helped me avoid cravings. I also aligned my eating schedule with my workouts, for example, having a pre-workout snack to fuel my glute training sessions. The balance between nourishing my body and maintaining a calorie deficit (around 1300 calories with 110g protein intake on some days) was crucial for steady and healthy weight loss. Remember, the goal was slow and steady—losing about 10lbs over 5 months—to minimize muscle loss and promote lasting results. Focusing on foods I enjoyed and making mindful swaps kept me motivated and prevented the diet from feeling like a chore. This approach helped me cultivate healthier habits that can be maintained long-term.
