Hormone Disruptors in Skincare

People will say what they want, but the fact of the matter is research does not prove this is occurring.

The studies that have found issues were either:

1. On animals: you’re not an animal

2. Cells in a petri dish: you’re not that

3. Concentrations higher than used in cosmetics

Anything CAN be harmful, including air & water at a certain point.

YES, brands have been sued and lost. Many people are convicted for crimes they didn’t commit, the justice system is and has never been perfect.

... Read moreFrom my experience working closely with dermatology professionals, I've encountered many concerns about hormone disruptors in skincare products. It’s important to understand that much of the fear comes from misunderstandings of scientific studies. Research that claims harm often involves unrealistic scenarios, such as testing on animals or cells in isolation, which don't accurately represent how our bodies respond to typical cosmetic use. In daily skincare routines, the concentration of ingredients considered potential hormone disruptors is typically very low and far below levels that have shown any adverse effects in lab settings. It’s similar to how even essential substances like water or oxygen can be harmful in excessive amounts—context and dosage matter a great deal. I’ve also observed how the industry is regulated, with safety evaluations that prioritize consumer health. While it’s true that some brands have faced legal action, this does not necessarily prove widespread harm but shows the complexity of legal and scientific evidence. Skepticism is always healthy, but it’s vital to base concerns on credible research rather than hype. For those looking to avoid any potential risks, opting for products labeled as 'nontoxic' or 'chemical-free' may provide peace of mind, but it’s worth remembering that everything is made of chemicals—what matters is the safety and concentration of those chemicals. Consulting with dermatology experts can provide personalized recommendations tailored to your skin type and concerns. Overall, maintaining a balanced perspective helps in choosing effective and safe skincare without undue worry about unproven hormone disruption.
