A Course In Miracles Lesson 36

My holiness envelops everything I see.

🌿 Once I begin to accept that my mind is part of God’s and that I am fundamentally whole, the way I show up in the world changes. This isn’t about a "glow" or some high-level spiritual energy; it is about the quiet reality of how I enter a room. If I am no longer at war with myself, the world meets less attack when it meets me.

For years, I entered every interaction defended. I was scanning for rejection, pre-writing conflicts, and assuming everyone saw the same "felon" or "failure" that I saw in the mirror. That was the armor we talked about—and that armor made the world feel harder than it needed to be. But as I reclaim my dignity, I realize that holiness is actually nervous-system safety. When I stop attacking myself, I stop needing to defend my right to exist.

"Enveloping the world in holiness" simply means I have stopped bringing my old survival inventions into my current moments. When I walk into the break room, the parole office, or the grocery store, I am not projecting my past onto the people I see. Because I am not carrying self-contempt, I don’t go looking for it in their eyes. My holiness is my steadiness; it is the floor beneath my feet that doesn't shake just because someone else is having a bad day.

This doesn’t mean people will suddenly treat me better or that my background disappears. It means I am no longer vulnerable to it. I am letting my internal stillness define my experience, rather than letting the room dictate my peace. Holiness is not a peak I’ve climbed; it is the neutral, stable ground where I finally belong.

Today, I am not trying to change the world.

I am simply refusing to attack it with my defenses.

... Read moreIn reflecting on the profound lesson that "My holiness envelops everything I see," I've found that truly embracing our inherent holiness is a journey toward radical self-acceptance and inner stability. As the lesson suggests, recognizing that our minds are part of a greater divinity means accepting ourselves as fundamentally whole and sinless—not in an abstract way but in how we relate to ourselves moment by moment. When I began this practice, I noticed it was not about achieving a mystical state or emitting an aura but about a deep internal shift. This shift manifested as a reduction in the self-critical voice that previously colored every social encounter. For years, my internal dialogue projected fears of rejection and failure onto others, causing me to defend myself unconsciously. By applying the idea that my holiness envelops all I see, I started gently observing my surroundings without judgment or resentment. Practically, the exercises involving slowly repeating the affirmation while looking around slowly helped me ground this awareness. I found moments when glancing at everyday objects—a chair, a wall, or even my own fingers—became opportunities to acknowledge the sacred presence in them, reinforcing the sense that holiness is not selective but all-encompassing. This transformation also brought a remarkable calmness to my nervous system, echoing the text's notion of "nervous-system safety." It created a steady foundation beneath my feet, making me less reactive to others' moods or actions. I realized that the peace I sought was never outside but within, and that by refusing to project past traumas onto present experiences, I was capable of entering any space—be it a workplace, store, or social setting—with an openness free from previous defenses. Moreover, this lesson reshaped my understanding of healing and spirituality. Instead of striving to change others or circumstances, I found empowerment in changing my relationship to them. This subtle but profound shift from attack to acceptance opened new pathways to mental health and emotional healing. If you’re exploring this path, I encourage integrating short, mindful pauses throughout your day to repeat the core idea—"My holiness envelops everything I see"—especially during challenging moments. These moments helped me cultivate a continuous practice of inner steadiness. Ultimately, this lesson invites us to live from a place of belonging within ourselves, where holiness is the neutral ground, a refuge amidst life’s fluctuations. It’s a powerful reminder that the truest peace is found not in external validation or perfection but in the simple acceptance of our divine nature right now.
