A Course In Miracles Lesson 136
I notice how quickly I treat what I’m experiencing as something happening to me.
Lesson 136
Sickness is a defense against the truth.
🌿 When something feels off,
my attention goes straight to the experience.
The discomfort.
The tension.
The reaction in the body.
It feels like the starting point.
Like something has already happened
and now I need to respond to it.
But the lesson points earlier than that.
Not to the feeling itself,
but to the decision that came before it.
The one I don’t usually see.
The part where something was interpreted as a threat.
Where a response was chosen.
And then forgotten.
So what remains
feels like an external condition.
Something real.
Something I have to deal with.
The lesson reframes that completely.
Sickness is not random.
It is not imposed.
It is a defense.
A way of maintaining a position
when something deeper is being questioned.
Not consciously.
But precisely.
Because if attention stays on the symptom,
the cause is never examined.
That’s what gives it power.
Not the experience itself,
but what it keeps out of awareness.
The part where I chose
what this would mean.
Today I’m watching where I react as if something has already been decided for me.
Where I move straight into response without questioning the interpretation underneath it.
Not trying to force a different experience.
But recognizing that something came before it.
Sickness is a defense against the truth.
I am MovingStill.
