(What is this situation?)
Saori quickly tidies up the room so that the three of us can somehow sit down.
Saki makes coffee as if this were someone else’s house she knows by heart.
No one says a word.
With nothing else to do, I hold my Taylor and slowly start tuning it.
“Will you play it live for us?”
Saori’s voice is gentle,
but it has a firm core.
“Yeah.”
That’s all I say, looking at the two of them in turn.
The first song is one I’ve never played for anyone.
The chords and structure are still unfinished.
As soon as I start playing, the room grows quiet.
The sound of the strings sinks into the walls.
There are no lyrics.
Only a melody.
Saori has her eyes closed.
Saki is staring straight at my fingers.
Even after the song ends, no one speaks right away.
“Your songs really are…”
Saori says.
“They turn your feelings directly into sound,”
Saki adds.
At that moment, something warm spreads deep in my chest.
The second song.
One with just a bit of rhythm.
I notice Saki’s foot moving ever so slightly.
The third song is the one I wrote most recently.
After I finish playing, Saori speaks again.
“Hey.”
A quiet voice.
“What do you think would happen if we added keyboards to this song?”
Saori slowly looks at Saki.
“I was thinking the same thing.”
Saki looks surprised.
Saori continues.
“Saki, you should play the keys.”
The air freezes.
Saki’s eyes waver for just a moment.
“Me?”
“Yeah.”
Saori answers without hesitation.
“Is that okay?”
Saki asks, sounding unsure.
My heart thumps loudly in my chest.
Saori stays silent for a while, looking straight at me.
“Let’s do it. The three of us.”
Those words fall into the room.
In that moment, the distance between the three childhood friends suddenly felt much closer.
And I knew clearly—
from this moment on, something had begun that would change my fate.

Saori mira lentamente a Saki.
“¿Yo?”
“Sí.”
Saori responde sin dudar.
“¿Está bien?”
pregunta Saki, algo confundida.
Mi corazón da un fuerte latido.
Saori guarda silencio un momento y me mira fijamente.
